Abi and I are back from our scooter ride. We were quit the "girls about town" today. We scootered to the ferry...then went across the river...then to several small shops that sell kitchen/restaurant supplies...and then through the back streets of Shanghai. The back streets are the heart of Shanghai...this is where people live. The back streets are narrow alleys where people come and go from their homes, hang their laundry, buy and sell things, and cook foods that look and smell strange to us but are tradition and familiar to this culture. After the back streets it was back on the ferry, the DVD store, and then dinner at a bakery on the corner. Our mode of transportation to all of these places was our scooters. It sort of feels like we are starting to "blend in".
