Tim has been in search of a scooter that is larger than "the scooter girls" and finally found one yesterday afternoon. He purchased it and rode it all the way back (a very long way) to our apartment. He was so happy!!! I think the "not driving" thing is really getting to him. He said he loved riding his bike because he was in control. He could go wherever he wanted without relying on someone else to get him there.
Yesterday we picked up the rest of our stuff from the fabric market and Tim ordered some more shirts. Our duvet was remade and now fits really great.
Jane took Tim and I on the subway and we learned how the system works. It is really very easy and I think I will use it in the future. I hope to never be in the subway during "rush hour". Jane said it is really really crazy. We did a quick walking tour around the Peoples Square, the urban planning building and then the Shanghai Museum. The weather was really beautiful (a three + bridge day) and it was nice to be outside.
Yesterday afternoon Abi took our driver and some friends downtown to shop. The plan was that Abi would call the driver when they were ready to be picked. However she left her cell phone in the van with the driver and realized when it was time to leave that she had no way to call him or us because (like her mother) depends on her phone to have all the numbers that she needs. Without the phone....no numbers. AND 411 does not work if you speak English and live in China. So...long story short.....they took a cab back to a mall that is close our apartment (the other girls were supposed to be there at 6:00) and then Abi took a cab from the mall to our apartment. She got home about 7:30 and needless to say Tim and I were worried sick because she was so late and we could not reach her by phone. She was very shook up when she got home and then also discovered that she left her wallet in one of the taxis. Lets just say it was a very bad evening for all of us.
This morning we are all just hanging out. Abi is doing homework and Tim is anxious to get out on the road with the scooters. I can not get a grip on how I am feeling.......
Our cultural training was very interesting on Friday. I learned a lot and it was very insightful. More on that later.
