Happy 18th Birthday Abi Spofford!!!
We are back from Malaysia. Had a relaxing time in the sun...so weird to leave "freezing" Shanghai and fly a few hours to "very warm" Langkawi. Pictures to follow....

I am on a plane tomorrow for the states. I will be in Portland/Vancouver for one week.

It is soooooooooo cold in Shanghai today. We are looking forward to hanging on the beach in Langkawi next week. Highs 90 and lows 70....just my kind of temperature!

Chinese New Year....Yu Yuan Garden...

The lanterns are beautiful

Tim and Emily at the Fabric Market
Love this sign.....this is a new sign at the fabric market this week...Chris getting fitted for a new jacket

Dinner by Xiao Zhang
Congratulations to Abi.....She received an acceptance letter from University of Portland today!!! Now she has two options... Western Washington University or UP.....hmmmm...

Chris and Emily returned from Beijing this morning. Tim met them at the train station and took them for a traditional American breakfast at McDonald's. I think they ate their quota of Chinese food in Beijing. Tonight we will eat Italian at the top of the JinMao tower. This will top off a day of bargain shopping and massage.....ahhhh...only in China!

Next week we are off to Malaysia for holiday....yes...it is Chinese New Year and Abi and Tim are on vacation. We will stay one week...return to Shanghai on Saturday afternoon and Sunday I am on a plane to Portland to be with my parents for a week. To bad life is so boring! Not!

Long time no blog...

Thanks for your prayers for my parents. They are both doing well. My Dad is home from the hospital now and recovering from his surgery. They found two weak spots in his lung...did some creative stitching....kept him in the hospital for a few days and then sent him home. Of course that is the short story....but it seems they are through the worst part now.

My mom continues to recover from her knee replacement and is busy doing Physical therapy.

This week we have visitors from Utah...our niece and her husband (Emily and Chris Rogers) are visiting and we had a very busy couple of days. In just a few minutes we will be heading for the train station. They will spend two more very busy days in Beijing and then return to Shanghai.

Winter Ball

Peter took Abi for a surprise dinner at the top of the World Financial Center. This is the tallest building in Shanghai and has just recently opened. Tucker calls Abi a "Jet Setter"....hmmmm I wonder why?

Abi and Peter

I am feeling very short!
Having some fun!
Good news:
My mom had a knee replacement while we were home for the holidays. She is doing very well and is diligent about her PT.

Bad news:
My dad is currently in the hospital. His lung collapsed for the second time in less than a year. He is out of pain now and is waiting for a "look see" procedure. They hope to find the cause (maybe a weak spot in the lung) and repair it so this does not happen again.

Dad was Mom's caregiver while she is recovering from knee surgery....so.....things are a little crazy. My sister flew to Portland and will stay for a while. Thank God for little sisters!!! It is hard to be this far away when things like this happen.

Please keep my parents in your prayers.
We are back in Shanghai and I have to be honest...I was not ready to come back. Our trip to the US was a bit of an escape for me. The past 5 months in Shanghai have been challenging in many ways. Too many things to explain, some cultural, some personal, some work related, some school related. The good news....those months are behind us and I am ready to move forward.

More good news....

Abi has been accepted to Western Washington University, her #1 choice. She was notified while we were in Vancouver. Waaaawho! Pressure is off now...she can just relax and enjoy the rest of her senior year....well...maybe not too relaxed!

I started a new branch of java jewels (coffee group) here. I am calling it the "breakfast club" and we are meeting every Friday morning. After being with the Java jewels in Vancouver I realized how much I miss that connection and support system. The Vancouver Jewels were very encouraging and helped me make the first step.

Tucker is doing very well and loves his ID program at school. He is still working 2 days a week at Trader Joe's to support his car payment and other expenses. It will be great to have Abi and Tucker at the same school next year.

When are we coming home to stay you ask?
Good question...only the big guy knows the answer to that question. I am working at being content and living one day at a time. Tim's position has been budgeted for another year. That is a good thing in today's economy. It is good to have a job!!!

Happy New Year!!!

Winter Wonderland in Vancouver
Snow...Snow....Snow....
They say this is the biggest snow storm in 40 years! It took us a while to get Tucker home because every mode of transportation was "canceled". Our rental car was worthless in the snow and every car company was sold out of 4 wheel drives...Go figure.
Tucker finally dug his car out of the snow, bought snow tires, and drove home.

Christmas Eve
Ahhhh....such a nice brother
What a blessing to have everyone together!

Merry Christmas
