Day Three....

Tim went golfing this morning and Abi and I spent the morning at the pool. In the afternoon we took the shuttle bus into the city of Kota Kinabalu.....

Waiting for the bus....

We are easily entertained!!! Just give us a camera....

Everybody gets a chance to take some pictures while we wait....

Still waiting......still snapping pictures....

It took about 45 minutes to drive into the city from our hotel. We walked along the streets.....our goal was "adventure"!!! And..... to find the handicraft market and a restaurant for dinner.....

First we found the dried fish market...

Oh darn!!! A fabric shop!
And the handicraft market....wow was it hot in here!!!!

The streets of KK...

Outdoor markets...

Bananas for sale

Vegetables, fruits, and spices for sale....
And then.....the fresh fish market...and...I mean fresh!!! The fishing boats came in and unloaded. The vendors were very busy and had lots of different "seafood" for sale.

there were these things.....???
and shrimp...

and... of course... these fish....
and more fish...
And chicken!!! I am pretty sure these did not come off the fishing boats.
More interesting food...
And if you wanted your fish cooked....that was also possible...there was a very large BBQ section of the market.
BBQ seafood....

Look at the size of these prawns!!!

And green beans...

Tim buying bananas...
And then the sun set.....it was beautiful....
We found a place for dinner...

and continued to enjoy the waterfront and sunset...

One can never have too much of this!!!!!!!!!!

We did some more exploring after dinner and got back to our hotel around 10:00pm.

We were very tired but I managed to play with my new fabrics for a few minutes before bed...

Batiks

Thai silk....FYI...this was between $3 and $5 US dollars per meter

More batiks... And more batiks.....

Hey!!! While in Malaysia...buy fabric!!!
Day Two Malaysia...

We woke up to a beautiful view including a rainbow!!!!

Fun Facts about Sabah
  • Located on the northern tip of the world's third largest island

  • Mount Kinabalu is in Sabah and is the highest mountain between the Himalayas and New Guinea

  • Sabah is one of 13 states of the Federation of Malaysia

  • 1,500 kilometres of coastline are coral reefs

  • It is a tropical paradise....no kidding!!!

  • One of the first Survival shows was filmed on this island

Below are pictures from day two...more commentary later.....the pool is calling me

View from our hotel room.....note the rainbow in the sky!

The jungle mountain on the right is a nature reserve.
I was looking for artistic inspiration.....I had fun with the shadows!!!
and the landscape

breakfast.....banana pancakes with vanilla ice cream and maple syrup!

Beautiful grounds at the hotel...
Look at all this green space!!!! So....this is what grass looks like!

We went to a demonstration to learn how to wear a sor-rong

(I will look up the correct spelling for sor-rong later!)

Do you recognize these people? It looks like they have been taken hostage!

Ah......these are very handy items....they can be worn on the head...or...

as a dress....or...

as a skirt....you can even where them to greet the king!!

tropical flowers...
After lunch we took a taxi into the small town by the hotel. We needed some Malaysian currency and the only ATM at the airport in KL was "out of order".

Sights from the town.....I like how their cars match their houses!! Very colorful!

Fruit market...
More town...
Produce at the supermarket..

Ah...I love it when raw chicken is sold right next to the fresh produce! I am starting to feel at home!

After the excursion into town it was pool time again! Abi joined the water volleyball game.

And....played on the beach..

And the sun set on the China Sea...
We got out of our swim suits and went to dinner...
Abi wearing her new shirt she bought in town this afternoon!
